Chris is a hunter and discovered a soap which smelled like fresh dirt. He loved the scent and it worked great for hunting! Then the manufacturer stopped producing it and Chris never quite found another to replace it, so he decided to research how to make his own. After using the library and the internet to research various articles as well as articles written by soapmakers (non-commercial) he discovered commercial soaps did have a downside. Commercial soaps lather up nice, smell great, and keep us smelling fresh, but deodorant soaps destroy our skins natural defenses against bacteria, and non-deodorant soaps have unnecessary chemicals in them, and all of them tend to leave our skin dry, so Chris decided to create his own soaps. The soaps are made with moisturizing oils and the added benefits of different essential oils. No unnecessary chemicals!
Chris did create his own fresh dirt smelling soap, Hunter's Soap, Also Whoa an anti-bacterial / anti-viral soap (a great story behind this soap-please see story below) and many more!. The following are benefits of the essential oils used:
One rendition dates back to 1413. During the 15th century bubonic plague in Europe and Asia, four European thieves made it a habit to rob the deceased of anything of value. These bodies were highly contagious with the plague, which begins with severe flu symptoms and then continues with the bacteria infecting the blood system, usually ending in death (it is estimated 150 million people passed during this four year pandemic). However, these nasty villains never contracted the plague. It was reported that they wore hats and masks that smelled of vinegar and garlic and herbs and spices, namely cloves, lemons, cinnamon, eucalyptus, and rosemary.
A French version also involves the thieves. These hooligans were caught and jailed for robbing sick or vulnerable people, but never caught the deadly illness. They were to be burned alive for their crimes, but their judge told them he would spare them that if they would share how they avoided the plague. The thieves said that they were perfume and spice merchants who lost their livelihoods because of the thorough devastation of the disease. They combined cloves, lemon, cinnamon, eucalyptus, and rosemary and applied the blend to their hands, ears, feet, temples, and on a mask that they wore over their mouth.
Then they went out and about and committed their crimes, protected from the very infectious illness. Once the judge learned of their secret (and shared it among all he knew), he did spare them the punishment of being burned and he had them hung instead.
The combination of these herbs and spices, especially when concentrated to an essential oil, contains properties that are antimicrobial, anti-fungal, antiseptic, and antiviral - and it smells great, too! The combined scent is a warm, comforting feeling.
Bergamot Essential Oil may be helpful in use during periods of depression, sadness or grief, and it is known for its ability to help combat oily skin and acne.
Cedarwood has a rich, sweet, calming, and woody aroma like a cedar closet. It is used for its calming properties and it can be helpful for all skin types, particularly oily or acne prone skin.
Clary Sage Essential Oil is widely used in a number of topical, respiratory, digestive, emotional and feminine issues such as dandruff, dry skin, asthma, coughing, flatulence, stress, exhaustion, intestinal cramping and menstrual pain.
Eucalyptus Globulus Essential Oil is probably most well known for its wonderful benefits for respiratory applications including helping to ease congestion and pressure, colds, flu, fever and bronchitis. It's also a great essential oil to use in massage or other topical blends to ease muscular pain and arthritis.
Lavender Oil has a beautiful, versatile aroma. It is anti-bacterial and is a must-have for your first-aid kit. Its calming and sedative properties make Lavender Essential Oil a wonderful oil to help relax, fight stress and to promote sleep.
Lemongrass Essential helps give you an emotional boost when life is challenging. It's wonderful to include in blends for use when you are emotionally or physically lethargic or when you need help focusing.
Patchouli is often associated with the hippies and the 1960s. Some individuals, therefore, hold a negative connotation of the oil, but it is helpful for most all skin types ranging from dry, cracked skin all the way to helping to regulate oily skin and acne. Those with eczema, psoriasis and dandruff have said that patchouli is especially helpful for them. Emotionally, Patchouli Essential Oil is calming and grounding.
Rosemary has an excellent reputation for oily skin/acne, scalp and hair care, and can be helpful with alopecia (hair loss). Rosemary is quite stimulating and is heralded for help in memory retention and staying focused and alert. Rosemary is a good choice for blends for driving long distances and for long study sessions.
